Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of smoking with health-related quality of life among Korean adult women. The participants of this study were 1,771 adult women divided into nonsmokers, ex smokers and current smokers using The Sixth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES, VI-2, 2014).
Methods: A chi-square test and ANOVA were conducted to compare the demographic characteristics, health characteristics, mental health status, and quality of life of the participants. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the association between smoking and quality of life. All statistical analyzes were performed using SPSS version 21.0.

Results: The results showed that the smoking status of women was statistically significant different in items of age, income level, frequency of drinking, obesity, stress, and depression. The EQ-5D index according to smoking behavior was higher in nonsmokers than in current smokers. In the sub-items, significant differences were found in the areas of usual activities, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depression. In the association of smoking with health-related quality of life, current smokers had lower quality of life than nonsmokers (OR= 2.71[1.57-4.68]).

Conclusions: The results suggested that smoking-related quality of life was lower for current smokers than nonsmokers. Therefore, effective smoking cessation program should be prepared to improve the quality of life of smoking women.
